District Profile

The formation of the GatewayJFK district in the Springfield Gardens area of southeast Queens represents the public–private partnership required to manage daily challenges faced by businesses and residents alike and to plan for the District’s future. District-wide efforts of GatewayJFK are to be part of a broader strategic planning effort that requires close coordination with all government agencies, community boards, civic and industry associations, and most importantly, with Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ), as it implements the Capital Plan 2017-2026 and plans for future infrastructure, cargo-related operations and facilities, transportation, parking, and access to both the airport facilities and to theregional cargo community for which connectivity is so important.

Unlike any other NYC BID, GatewayJFK is unique primarily because of the extent to which the on- and off-airport businesses and operations are functionally integrated.

On Airport at JFK International Airport

The mission of the Port Authority of NY & NJ is to keep the region moving by air, land, rail and sea, so that the people and businesses of the region continue to thrive.  It leads the transformation of John F. Kennedy International Airport into a unified, world-class international gateway.  The JFK Vision Plan (2017) guides many redevelopment initiatives.  Visit A New JFK for more on JFK redevelopment plans.

  •  A $9.5 billion, 2.4 million square foot state-of-the-art new international terminal will anchor the south side of the airport and will be built on the sites of Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the former Terminal 3. It will be built by The New Terminal One (NTO) - a consortium of financial sponsors.

  • A $1.5 billion expansion of Terminal 4, led by Delta and JFK International Air Terminal.

  • A $3.9 billion development of a state-of-the-art new Terminal 6, to be built by JFK Millennium Partners, on the airport's north side will seamlessly connect with JetBlue's existing Terminal 5.

  • A $425 million expansion of JFK's Terminal 8, led by American Airlines, which operates the terminal, and British Airways, which will be relocating to Terminal 8 from Terminal 7.

JFK's Air Cargo Center consists of cargo handling and service facilities, including a The ARK at JFK animal handling facility, a U.S. Post Office Airport Mail Facility, and an Airport Travel Plaza facility which includes truck fueling, truck parking, and other services.

GatewayJFK Off-Airport. On the Move.

Just as the PANY&NJ has a broad reach covering Air, Land, Rail, and Sea, so too does the GatewayJFK off-airport cargo community. The companies involved with logistics and supply chain management, customs brokerage and freight forwarding, trucking, warehousing & distribution extend beyond JFK airport to ports of call and key transportation hubs around the nation and the world.

GatewayJFK is also the home of a broad range of other supporting businesses, as well as major food service companies, hotels, retail and other services, along with residential uses within and adjacent to the District.

Adjacent to GatewayJFK are several park areas, including Baisley Park to the north, Springfield Park and Idlewild Park & Nature Center to the southeast. Contact Eastern Queens Alliance, an active steward of Idlewild Park.
